Remember that with epubs you can rename them to zip files and then unzip the files to examine everything. Remember that one is semantically a content ToC and the other is a metadata ToC, even though both might have exactly the same entries and look the same. My books start page is in the middle of its Table of Contents. But when I loaded the Previewer output file onto my Kindle Touch, it doesnt show any of that stuff. Previewers Go to shows all the files Ive marked with Add semantics, Table of Contents, Title Page, Copyright Page, Cover, Preface, etc. Now it might well seem to you that the MOBI book has two identical ToCs. For best results, though, we recommend using Kindle Previewer to proof your Kindle ebook. I prepared my book on Sigil and ran it thru Kindle Previewer. Unfortunately while it is relatively easy to figure out epub issues, Kindlegen sometimes produces strange errors, and the best solution is to keep removing chapters until you get a version that works. When you click Goto Table of Contents on your Kindle, it is to this extra content ToC that the Kindle takes you. You may refer the user guide from Menu > Help > Kindle Previewer 3 User Guide for more instructions. If you are using a command line interface, run kindlepreviewer help for usage instructions. Kindle requires a virtual table of contents at the front of the ebook, and your toc.xhtml would normally contain links to all the chapters. Launch the application, use Menu > Open Book and follow the instructions to open, convert and preview a book. Why is it linking to itself? That is definitely something which might confuse Kindlegen. Probably the strangest thing to me when I examine your epub file is that toc.xhtml (on line 24) lists itself as an item in the TOC. This is probably an issue with Kindlegen, but there are times when Calibre is incompatible with kindle. It's very strange that the epub file validates. Perhaps 5824-Section.xhtml seems to be causing the issue. Included in the parent chapter:Table of Contents In the Bookmark name field, enter toc (without quotes), and click Add.
